Indigent Rep Task Force Completes Tour The Supreme Court’s Indigent Representation Task Force conducted a statewide “listening tour” this summer designed to learn more and “look at indigency determinations, delivery of services, administration of the indigent representation fund and the current compensation rate.” The Task Force heard from the legal community and the general public at forums in Memphis, Trenton, Johnson City, Knoxville, Cleveland, Nashville and Franklin.

New Patent Pro Bono Program Launched
The Legal Assistance Volunteers for Patent Applicants (LAVPA) program has been officially launched by the Tennessee Bar Association. Online applications from inventors are being received, and attorney volunteers are signing up through the online forms found on the LAVPA page of the TBA’s website.

TBA Members Give Strong Support to Justices

Nine out of 10 lawyers recommend that Tennesseans vote to “retain” the three Tennessee Supreme Court Justices on the Aug. 4 ballot. The data is the result of a Tennessee Bar Association (TBA) Candidate Evaluation Poll conducted during four weeks in May and June.

TBA ASKS JUDICIAL CANDIDATES TO SIGN CODE OF CONDUCT
With three Tennessee Supreme Court Justices and seven intermediate appellate judges facing retention elections, along with 15 trial judges and a number of local judges on the ballot in August, the Tennessee Bar Association is renewing its effort to assure fair and impartial judicial elections by asking judges to subscribe to the Tennessee Fair Judicial Campaign Code of Conduct.

TBA Earns Top Pro Bono Award for MLP

The Tennessee Bar Association on April 7 was awarded the Pro Bono Advocacy Award in Medical-Legal Partnership from the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service. The award was presented in recognition of the TBA’s outstanding leadership in promoting medical-legal partnerships to the legal community, engaging volunteer lawyers and identifying and building relationships within the medical profession, in part through the formation of a Medical-Legal Partnership Working Group.
