Pro Bono Event Pushes Fundraising Past Half Million Mark

Tennessee lawyers helped raise more than $45,000 to help legal aid programs in the state at the Corporate Counsel Pro Bono Initiative Gala March 5 in Nashville. Now in its 10th year, the event has raised more than half a million dollars to support pro bono efforts that engage in-house and corporate counsel.

Substance Abuse, Mental Health Issues Big Problem for Lawyers
A new study sheds light on the substantial levels of problem drinking and mental health issues plaguing attorneys, according to the American Bar Association. The national study, conducted by the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs and the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation was reported in February in the Journal of Addiction Medicine.

PAGE IS NEW SUPREME COURT JUSTICE

On Jan. 7 Gov. Bill Haslam appointed Roger Amos Page to the Tennessee Supreme Court, replacing Justice Gary R. Wade, who retired in September. The Madison County attorney has been a judge on the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals since his appointment by Haslam in December 2011. He previously served as a circuit court judge for the 26th Judicial District.

SUPREME COURT AMENDS CODE OF JUDICIAL CONDUCT

Responding to suggestions from the Tennessee Bar Assocition and a committee of judges, the Tennessee Supreme Court on Dec. 2, 2015, amended the provisions of the Code of Judicial Conduct regarding judges and judicial candidates’ election campaign conduct.
