The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands will hold three legal advice clinics this week. Tomorrow, the group will hold a walk-in clinic at the Gallatin Civic Center from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 210 Albert Gallatin Ave., Gallatin 37066. On Wednesday, a clinic for veterans will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Operation Stand Down, 1125 12th Ave. S., Nashville 37203. On Thursday, a walk-in clinic will take place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Greenhouse Ministries, 309 S. Academy St., Murfreesboro 37130. All times central. Learn more about each event at the links above. TBA's BarBuzz podcast is back with a new episode featuring legal aid leaders Laura Brown, Debra House and Nick Gau as they share insight on access to justice, disaster relief efforts, and the impact of pro bono services on communities as a wrap up to October's Celebrate Pro Bono Month. The episode also explores opportunities for lawyers to get involved in pro bono work and disaster relief efforts, particularly in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The TBA Health Law Section has partnered with organizations across the state to provide free advance health care directive clinics in each of Tennessee’s grand divisions. The section is seeking volunteer lawyers to assist with the upcoming Memphis event. No previous experience is necessary and there will be experts on hand to answer questions. The clinic will take place Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST at the Memphis Medical Society, 1067 Cresthaven Rd., Memphis 38119. Four legal advice clinics are being held this week across the state. In Nashville, the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands will hold a clinic on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Nashville library and on Saturday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the McHugh Clinic. In Memphis, the Memphis Bar Association and Memphis Area Legal Services will hold an Attorney of the Day Clinic on Thursday from 1-3 p.m. at the Shelby County General Sessions Courthouse and the Second Saturday Legal Aid Clinic from 10 a.m. to noon at the Benjamin Hooks Central Library. Legal Aid of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, the TBA Young Lawyers Division and the Upper Cumberland Young Lawyers Association are partnering for a pro bono clinic on Nov. 14 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. CST. This walk-in clinic for general advice will take place during Overton County's Recovery Rally at the Joe L. Evins Community Center, 312 W. Broad St., Livingston 38570. View a flyer for the event. Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET) will hold two intake/interview sessions next week for prospective clients. On Monday, the group will be at the Marion County Justice Center in Jasper from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT. On Tuesday, it will be at the Sequatchie County Chancery (Old) Courthouse in Dunlap from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT. For more information, call the LAET office in Chattanooga at 423-756-4013.

The Nashville Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA) will hold a pro bono legal clinic for the creative community on Nov. 6. The clinic for income-qualified artists, musicians and creatives will take place from 6-8 p.m. CST at the Country Music Association, 35 Music Square E, #201, Nashville 37203. Those in need of legal services can register for a 30-minute appointment. The deadline to register is Nov. 1. Lawyers who would like to volunteer for the clinic sign up here.

The Knoxville Bar Association and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, in partnership with Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET), will hold a Debt Relief Clinic on Nov. 9 to provide pro bono legal services to income-eligible consumer debtors in Knox, Blount, Loudon and Sevier counties. The clinic will begin at 8:45 a.m. EDT at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St., Knoxville 37919. Judge Suzanne Bauknight will present a short overview of the bankruptcy system and then volunteer lawyers will conduct initial meetings with the clients to discuss their situations and options. Those interested in helping should register online. Clients seeking advice should register by Nov. 1 by calling 865-637-0484.

The Tennessee Justice Bus will make stops in several locations over the next 10 days as Celebrate Pro Bono Month comes to a close. On Thursday, the bus will be in Dekalb County at the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency in Smithville from 9-11 a.m. CDT for a general legal advice clinic. Later that day, the bus will offer resources at Urban Housing Solutions’ Journeys of Hope meeting in Nashville from 6-7 p.m. On Friday, the bus will be at the Urban Housing Solutions Resource Fair at the Eastwood Court Apartments from 4-6 p.m. in Nashville. On Oct. 29, the bus will be in West Tennessee to participate in an expungement clinic in Decaturville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Get details at the links above.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, organizations that serve victims of natural disasters are continuing to provide updated resources. The National Consumer Law Center has updated some of its natural disaster resources, including free publications for advocates assisting victims of natural disaster and others working to rebuild. In Tennessee, the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services' website Help4TN and helpline 844-HELP4TN are always available and have specific resources and legal support for storm survivors. Lawyers from across the state are invited to complete this online form to volunteer to help disaster survivors. The TBA Disaster Resources page offers general information for those impacted by disasters, as well as those seeking to provide assistance. The TBA's Helene Disaster Response page has information and resources specific to this disaster.
