Two legal clinics will be held in Memphis this week. Tomorrow, the Memphis Fair Housing Center, a division of Memphis Area Legal Services, will hold a free legal advice clinic addressing housing questions. The event will take place from 3-5 p.m. CST at the Benjamin L. Hooks Public Library, 3030 Poplar Ave., 3rd Floor, Study Room #1 Memphis 38111. For more information call 901-432-4663. Then on Thursday, the Memphis Bar Association and Memphis Area Legal Services will hold the Attorney of the Day Clinic from 1-3 p.m. at the General Sessions Courthouse, 140 Adams Ave., Memphis 38103. Volunteers should arrive at 1 p.m. and be available to provide advice about legal procedures to litigants. Members of the public with an active or post judgment case in General Sessions will be helped on a first come, first serve basis.

Registration is now open for the next free advice clinic for Black-owned small businesses and nonprofits, set for Nov. 21 in Nashville. The clinic, sponsored by the Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts and Bradley, provides assistance with business formation and corporate governance, review of contracts and guidance in navigating local ordinances and state regulations. The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands will hold three legal advice clinics this week. Tomorrow, the group will hold a walk-in clinic at the Gallatin Civic Center from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 210 Albert Gallatin Ave., Gallatin 37066. On Wednesday, a clinic for veterans will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Operation Stand Down, 1125 12th Ave. S., Nashville 37203. The TBA Health Law Section has partnered with organizations across the state to provide free advance health care directive clinics in each of Tennessee’s grand divisions. The section is seeking volunteer lawyers to assist with the upcoming Memphis event. No previous experience is necessary and there will be experts on hand to answer questions. In Memphis, the Memphis Bar Association and Memphis Area Legal Services will hold an Attorney of the Day Clinic on Thursday from 1-3 p.m. at the Shelby County General Sessions Courthouse and the Second Saturday Legal Aid Clinic from 10 a.m. to noon at the Benjamin Hooks Central Library. Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET) will hold two intake/interview sessions next week for prospective clients. On Monday, the group will be at the Marion County Justice Center in Jasper from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT. The Nashville Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA) will hold a pro bono legal clinic for the creative community on Nov. 6. The clinic for income-qualified artists, musicians and creatives will take place from 6-8 p.m. CST at the Country Music Association, 35 Music Square E, #201, Nashville 37203. The Knoxville Bar Association and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, in partnership with Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET), will hold a Debt Relief Clinic on Nov. 9 to provide pro bono legal services to income-eligible consumer debtors in Knox, Blount, Loudon and Sevier counties. The clinic will begin at 8:45 a.m. EDT at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St., Knoxville 37919. Judge Suzanne Bauknight will present a short overview of the bankruptcy system and then volunteer lawyers will conduct initial meetings with the clients to discuss their situations and options.
