The Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville and its Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA) program will hold a clinic on Aug. 6 for those needing legal advice on issues surrounding their creative practice. The free 30-minute in-person appointments are available to income-qualified artists, musicians, creatives and arts organizations in the state. The clinic, hosted in collaboration with North Nashville Arts Coalition (NNAC), will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. CDT at the Nashville Public Library Bordeaux Branch, 4000 Clarksville Pike, Nashville 37218. AutoZone, Bass, Berry & Sims, and Memphis Area Legal Services will team up to offer free legal services to Memphis-area seniors at the 15th annual “Give a Little, Help a Lot” pro bono legal aid clinic on July 16 at the Orange Mound Senior Center. The event, which has helped hundreds of seniors since it began in 2009, will provide low-income seniors with assistance in preparing advance care plans, health care directives, durable power of attorney forms, wills and other important legal documents. Attorneys, paralegals and volunteers will work one-on-one with seniors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT. The next free advice clinic for Black-owned small businesses and nonprofits is set for July 17 in Nashville.  The clinic, sponsored by the Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts and Bradley, provides assistance with business formation and corporate governance, review of contracts and guidance in navigating local ordinances and state regulations. Prospective clients should register by July 14. Attorneys should email vlpa@abcnashville.org to volunteer.

Volunteers are needed for a virtual debt relief/bankruptcy clinic that will take place via zoom on July 16 at 3 p.m. CDT/4 p.m. EDT. This clinic will serve individuals in both East and West Tennessee. Attorneys may volunteer here. The Knoxville Bar Association and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, in partnership with Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET), will hold a Debt Relief Clinic on June 28 to provide pro bono legal services to income-eligible consumer debtors. The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. EDT at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St., Knoxville 37919. Judge Suzanne Bauknight will present a short overview of the bankruptcy system and then volunteer lawyers will conduct initial meetings with the clients to discuss their situations and options. The next legal clinic for veterans in Knoxville will take place June 11 from 12-2 p.m. EDT at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St., Knoxville 37919. This is a general advice clinic sponsored by the Knoxville Bar Association, KBA Barristers, Legal Aid of East Tennessee, Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law, the University of Tennessee College of Law, the Knox County Public Defender’s Community Law Office and the local Veterans Affairs office. The General Sessions Court Clerk’s Office will host an expungement clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CDT on May 24 at the Levi Branch of the Memphis Public Libraries, 3676 S 3rd St., Memphis 38109. Sponsored by the TBA Young Lawyers Division and other local groups, the event aims to help eligible individuals navigate the process of having certain criminal records sealed or erased from public view. Expunged records are generally inaccessible to the public, including employers, landlords and educational institutions, FOX13 reports. Participants will receive assistance determining eligibility, completing paperwork, understanding the legal process and connecting with legal resources. See a flier for the event.
