The next free advice clinic for Black-owned small businesses and nonprofits is set for Nashville. This month's event will take place on June 18 instead of the usual date in honor of Juneteenth. The clinic, sponsored by the Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts and Bradley, provides assistance with business formation and corporate governance, review of contracts and guidance in navigating local ordinances and state regulations. Sponsored by the TBA Young Lawyers Division and other local groups, the event aims to help eligible individuals navigate the process of having certain criminal records sealed or erased from public view. A pro bono opportunity included in yesterday’s issue of TBA Today incorrectly stated that a veterans clinic would be held in Knoxville this month. The next veterans clinic will take place on June 11. The clinic is held every other month on the second Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. EDT at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St., Knoxville 37919. Attorney and law student volunteers are always needed. Also in yesterday’s issue, the story about Nashville paying out settlement funds accidentally transposed the numbers in the amount. The metro government paid out $4.2 million in 2024.

Memphis Area Legal Services and the Community Legal Center will hold a free legal clinic tomorrow in Memphis at the Idlewild Presbyterian Church, 1750 Union Ave., Memphis 38104. The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon CDT. Issues to be handled include debt and bankruptcy, divorce, child support and custody, foreclosure and eviction, expungement, personal injury, disability claims, employee rights, wills and estates and more. The Tennessee Justice Bus will join the University of Tennessee Extension for its Spring Health Fair and National Healthy Kids Day on April 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT at the Dickson County Government Building and the Dickson County YMCA. Attendees will have access to a variety of local and statewide legal information and resources, including the ability to use the Justice Bus’s onboard technology to research legal issues through Help4TN.org and TN.FreeLegalAnswers.org. The Tennessee Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission is partnering with the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services, the Hard Bargain Association and Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands to hold a wills clinic in Williamson County. West Tennessee Legal Services (WTLS) is partnering with the Tennessee Governor’s Faith-Based and Community Initiative and the Tennessee Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission to host a free expungement clinic on April 25 in Jackson in celebration of Second Chance Month and Help4TN Month, WBBJ News reports. The clinic will allow qualifying individuals to have their criminal records erased. It is open only to those with charges in Madison County General Sessions or Circuit courts. The Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville and its Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA) program will hold a clinic on May 7 for those needing legal advice on issues surrounding their creative practice. The free 30-minute in-person appointments are available to income-qualified artists, musicians, creatives and arts organizations in the state. The clinic will run from 6-8 p.m. CDT at the Belmont College of Law, Randall and Sadie Baskin Center, 1901 15th Ave. S., Nashville 37212.
