An item in yesterday’s issue of TBA Today incorrectly attributed a late-filed petition against the state’s new congressional district map. The emergency petition was filed by the NAACP of Tennessee. In its petition, the group argues that yesterday’s legislation action was illegal because state law prohibits redistricting between U.S. Census apportionments. WSMV has a copy of the filing.

A news item in yesterday's issue of TBA Today highlighted a new expungement process for certain cases in the Shelby County Criminal Court. The court has asked that TBA clarify that the new automatic expungement process is initiated only after the petitioner requests it in court. The new process will allow the order to be signed by all relevant parties in the courtroom, rather than requiring the petitioner to file elsewhere. No expungements will be processed without the petitioner’s or their attorney’s express request. The new process will start March 23. It will apply only to cases that have been dismissed or identified as nolle prosequi with no costs.

A news item in yesterday's issue of TBA Today included the wrong link for Friday's virtual town hall meeting. The event this week will focus on non-lawyer ownership and fee sharing. There is no cost to attend but registration is required to receive the meeting link. The event is part of TBA's ongoing effort to gather feedback from Tennessee attorneys on the Tennessee Supreme Court’s Sept. 16 order seeking public comment on seven areas of potential regulatory changes to the legal profession. Additional town halls will be held on Feb. 19, 23 and 26. Attorneys also are encouraged to review the TBA’s Legal Access & Regulatory Reform resource page before attending any of these events.

A story in yesterday’s issue of TBA Today incorrectly stated that U.S. Rep. John Rose, R-Cookeville, is stepping down from his congressional seat early to run for the Republican gubernatorial nomination. Rose’s current term, like all members of the U.S. House of Representatives, runs through the end of 2026.
