A news item in Thursday's issue of TBA Today incorrectly identified the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals judge that Kevin Ritz, current U.S. attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, will replace if confirmed to the court. Ritz was nominated by President Joe Biden last week to replace Judge Julia Smith Gibbons, who last August announced her intention to take senior status on the court following confirmation of a successor. A story in Friday’s issue of TBA Today included reporting from the Memphis Commercial Appeal that the University of Memphis School of Law was considering former Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland as its next dean. The paper also indicated that current Dean Katharine T. Schaffzin had not announced her intention to step down from that post. The paper has now corrected its story to clarify that although the school has not announced Schaffzin’s exit, Schaffzin emailed the law school community of her intention in August 2023. In that email — which until now has not been publicly reported on — she wrote, "My family and I have made Memphis our home for the past fourteen years and plan to remain Tigers. I will continue my service as dean throughout this academic year and, after a sabbatical, plan to return to the classroom preparing competent litigators for the practice of law."

Three opinions in today's issue of TBA Today are corrected versions of opinions that ran earlier this week and last week. A correction in the case of Jimmiko Driskell v. State of Tennessee, issued by the Court of Criminal Appeals on Feb. 29, included the wrong case summary in that day's issue of TBA Today. An opinion from the Court of Criminal Appeals in the case of State of Tennessee v. Matthew Smith ran in the wrong section of the Feb. 29 issue of TBA Today. And, an opinion from the Tennessee Supreme Court on March 7 in the case of State of Tennessee v. Tony Thomas and Laronda Turner omitted an opinion concurring in part and dissenting in part by Justice Sharon Lee. The court also today issued a corrected version of an opinion concurring in part and dissenting in part to that case by Justice Sarah Campbell.

A news story in Friday’s issue of TBA Today incorrectly attributed the source of proposed amendments to Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, section 16, which, if adopted, would have replaced section 16 in its entirety and changed the procedure for complaints against members of the board, district committee members and disciplinary counsel. It also mischaracterized the position of the Board of Professional Responsibility. The Tennessee Supreme Court itself initiated the proposed changes and solicited public comment on them. Among the comments received were those from the board, which opposed the changes. On Friday, the court instead adopted “minor revisions” to the rule. See a red line version of the section and the new rule in this order from the court.

A news summary in Thursday’s issue of TBA Today mischaracterized the argument Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, The Daily Wire and The Federalist are making in opposing two projects funded by the State Department’s Global Engagement Center. The group argues that the technology being used by the center could "render disfavored press outlets unprofitable" and specifically cite funding that went to GDI and NewsGuard.
