House Speaker and gubernatorial candidate Beth Harwell, R-Nashville, was hit with a third ethics complaint since the start of her statewide campaign, the Nashville Post reports. The complaint, similar to previous cases, alleges illegal coordination with her PAC, claiming that the Harwell PAC produced a TV ad “with direction, cooperation, consultation and in concert with” Harwell. All three complaints, which were all filed by the same Nashville conservative activist, will be discussed by the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance at its March monthly meeting.

U.S. Sen. Bob Corker’s office confirmed today that the two-term senator would not seek reelection, despite reconsidering his retirement decision in recent weeks, NPR reports. Last September, Corker announced he would not run again, triggering U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn and former Gov. Phil Bredesen to enter the race to replace him. Some Tennessee Republicans had encouraged Corker to rethink his choice to retire over concern that Blackburn would flounder against Bredesen, a moderate Democrat, in the general election.

Rep. Jimmy Eldridge announced Friday that he will retire from the legislature after 16 years, The Jackson Sun reports. Eldridge will instead run for mayor of his hometown of Jackson in 2019. Eldridge represents District 73, which includes parts of Madison County.

Morristown Republican Rep. Tilman Goins says he will not seek reelection in November, Humphrey on the Hill reports. Goins was first elected in 2012 after defeating incumbent Rep. Don Miller in the Republican primary. Goins represents State House District 10, which covers Hamblin County.

Maury County Commission Chairman Michael Fulbright says he will seek the Republican nomination for Tennessee House District 64, Humphrey on the Hill reports. Fulbright is running for a seat that will be open due to the impending retirement of Rep. Sheila Butt, R-Columbia. House District 64 includes much of rural Maury County.

Former U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher has dropped out of the race for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate and is encouraging U.S. Sen Bob Corker to seek re-election, Knoxnews reports. "The party must get behind a candidate that can win in November and stop Democrat Phil Bredesen," Fincher said. Fincher's primary opponent was current U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn.

Democratic State Rep. Johnnie Turner announced today she will not seek reelection this year, the Memphis Daily News reports. Turner was first elected to the legislature in 2009, succeeding her late husband, Larry Turner. In her career, Turner was notable for passing legislation creating a Civil Rights Cold Case Joint Committee, which reviews unsolved criminal cases from the civil rights era for future investigation.

U.S. Rep. Diane Black is under fire for taking more than $200,000 in campaign donations from individuals affiliated with a trucking company and her efforts to maintain a loophole for diesel emissions testing, The Tennessean reports. Black was the subject of a New York Times story published today, which said the gubernatorial candidate was instrumental in continuing a loophole that allows rebuilt diesel engines to avoid modern emission requirements. The news prompted the filing of a complaint today with the state Bureau of Ethics and Campaign Finance.

Davidson County Chancellor Bill Young confirmed today that he will not seek reelection for his seat, choosing instead to join Memphis-based law firm Harris Shelton Hanover Walsh, the Nashville Post reports. Young was appointed to the position in 2016 by Gov. Bill Haslam after serving in several official capacities, including Tennessee Attorney General. Joy Sims, Anne Martin and Scott Tift have all filed to run for Young’s seat.

An attorney from Baker Donelson’s Knoxville office, Jamie Ballinger, announced yesterday that she is running for Tennessee Senate District 7, Humphrey on the Hill reports. Ballinger, who will run as a Democrat, challenges incumbent Republican Sen. Richard Briggs, who has held the seat since 2014. District 7 comprises parts of Knox County, including Farragut and portions of downtown Knoxville.
