Metro Nashville Arts will host an official dedication ceremony for a new mural, “They Fought With Words: Leaders, Lawyers and Educators," at the Looby Community Center on July 16. The artwork, created by Creative Girls Rock with lead artist Elisheba Israel Mrozik, celebrates the life and legacy of Nashville lawyer and civil rights icon Z. Alexander Looby. The Fourth Annual John Lewis Way March will be held July 19 beginning at 8 a.m. CDT at the corner of John Lewis Way and Jefferson Street in Nashville and end with a performance outside the National Museum of African American Music on Broadway. The next free advice clinic for Black-owned small businesses and nonprofits is set for July 17 in Nashville.  The clinic, sponsored by the Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts and Bradley, provides assistance with business formation and corporate governance, review of contracts and guidance in navigating local ordinances and state regulations. The Tennessee Department of Revenue will host a free webinar on June 24 to discuss how to properly close a registered business. Failure to properly close a business with the department could result in an assessment for delinquent taxes, penalties and interest after the business has ceased operations. The TBA offices will be closed Thursday for Juneteenth, a federal and state holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Specifically, it marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The Knoxville Bar Association and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, in partnership with Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET), will hold a Debt Relief Clinic on June 28 to provide pro bono legal services to income-eligible consumer debtors. The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. EDT at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St., Knoxville 37919. Judge Suzanne Bauknight will present a short overview of the bankruptcy system and then volunteer lawyers will conduct initial meetings with the clients to discuss their situations and options. A Juneteenth celebration will take place June 14 in Lebanon, with a daylong, family-friendly festival on Market Street beginning at 11 a.m. CDT. Hosted by the Wilson County Black History Committee, the event will open with a ceremony recognizing the significance of Juneteenth as a national holiday. Maury County’s 9th Annual Juneteenth Celebration will take place June 21 at Riverwalk Park, 102 Riverside Dr., Columbia. The free event will include live music, food and local vendors. The same day, Cultural Arts Murfreesboro will hold an event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT at Bradley Academy Museum and Cultural Center along South Academy Street. Among the many social events providing opportunities for convention attendees to connect and network with colleagues will be a reception hosted by the Tennessee Justice Center (TJC).
