The 21st District Recovery Court is hosting its 13th Annual Community Luncheon on Oct. 30 at 11:30 a.m. CDT at the Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Ave. in Franklin. The luncheon serves as one of the court’s annual fundraisers. In addition to hearing from recent graduates, the court will honor Phil Newman with the Gayle Moyer Harris Award, which honors one of the court’s founders. Newman is a former board chair and was instrumental in developing several fundraisers for the organization. The Tennessee Department of Revenue will host a free live webinar Oct. 31 at 9 a.m. CDT to discuss how to file a state sales tax return online. Learn more or register here. The webinar is one in a series of educational sessions held by the department each month.

On Oct. 25, from noon-1 p.m. CDT, Nashville YWCA will host the next installment in its Stand Against Injustice series. The webinar — "Are Domestic Violence Abusers Guaranteed Guns?" — will cover the historical context and possible ramifications of an upcoming case. Next month, the U.S. Supreme Court will begin hearing oral arguments in United States v. Rahimi. A decision earlier this year by the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that individuals subject to orders of protection must be allowed to keep their guns. The decision overturned a federal statute prohibiting firearm possession by individuals determined to pose a credible threat to the safety of an intimate partner or child. National domestic violence organizations, including YWCA USA, have filed amicus briefs explaining why that decision endangers the lives of women.

Belmont University College of Law will host the iLead Law and Leadership Conference on Oct. 27 in Nashville. The one-day event, from Just The Beginning - A Pipeline Organization, will focus on leadership and law and provide an inspiring platform for students from diverse backgrounds to come together for a day of learning and career exploration. WPLN’s new podcast series "The Kids of Rutherford County" will debut with two episodes on Oct. 26, with episodes three and four to be released Nov. 2 and Nov. 9. The new program, which was produced in partnership with ProPublica, The New York Times and Serial Production, will build on investigative reporting on the juvenile justice system in Rutherford County, where children were being arrested and illegally jailed for over a decade. The series will be hosted by Meribah Knight, who won a Peabody award for the second season of The Promise, which examined resegregation occurring in two East Nashville elementary schools.

The Community Legal Center (CLC) in Memphis will hold a fundraiser on Nov. 3. The CLCerveza event will take place at Grind City Brewing from 6-8 p.m. CDT. General tickets are available for $30. Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) will hold a Thursday afternoon Courthouse Advice & Counsel Clinic this week starting at 1 p.m. CDT at the Shelby County Courthouse, 140 Adams St., Room 134. Volunteer lawyers are needed to help clients navigating the court system. This clinic is held the first and third Thursdays of the month. The TBA Attorney Well Being Committee will present a free one-hour webinar on Oct. 25 to help lawyers explore preemptive and restorative strategies to shield themselves from burnout. Nashville attorneys Brad Bald and Brigid Caldwell will lead the discussion, sharing insights about their personal paths to wellbeing. The Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers and Professionals for the Arts is joining the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings to provide free legal services for nonprofits and Black-owned small businesses in Nashville this Friday.
