Join members of the TBA Attorney Well Being Committee next week for a live interactive roundtable on how best to manage work-life balance as a legal professional. This 45 minute Zoom event on March 25 at 12:30 p.m. CDT will feature attorneys discussing their day-to-day practice and will provide effective tools for personal well-being. While geared toward law students and young lawyers, this free event is open to all TBA members, but registration is required. Questions and feedback are encouraged. YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee will offer a special Women’s History Month event next Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT. The program, “From Vision to Action: Women's Leadership in Community Change,” is designed to bring together women leaders who are working across different sectors to strengthen communities and expand opportunity. Speakers include Antricia Gordon with The Equity Alliance, Alexza Barajas Clark with EdTrust-Tennessee and Katina R. Beard with the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center. This event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided for the first 50 in-person registrants. Register for the in-person program. The University of Tennessee Winston College of Law will hold its annual Orr Symposium on April 16 from noon to 4:45 p.m. EDT. The event, sponsored by the law school’s legal clinic and Tennessee Law Review as well as the Tennessee Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission, will focus on “Closing the Rural Justice Gap: Innovation and Regulatory Reform.” Speakers will address the shortage of legal services in rural communities and examine solutions to expand legal help in underserved areas. The Belmont Legal Aid Society will hold its Fourth Annual Putt for Pro Bono Golf Tournament on April 3 at the Towhee Golf Club — an Arnold Palmer-designed course — in Spring Hill. This event directly funds stipends that allow law students to provide pro bono legal work to Tennessee communities.The registration price will be $140 per golfer. Interested individuals can register as a team with up to four members. Individual registrants will be placed in a team of four. Check-in on the day of the tournament will start at 8 a.m. CDT and the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CDT. Lunch and awards will follow. Make plans now to join colleagues for a day of golf and camaraderie while raising funds to provide critical legal services to those in need. Tomorrow is the deadline to register for TBA’s 4th Annual Day on the Hill and Big Shrimp legislative reception! This year's events will take place March 18 in Nashville, beginning at 10:30 a.m. CDT at the Cordell Hull Building with presentations from TBA’s lobbying team and members of the General Assembly. Attendees then will meet with various legislators throughout the day, focusing on building relationships, championing TBA’s legislative priorities and advocating for elimination of the professional privilege tax. After the day’s meetings, attendees are invited to join colleagues, lawmakers and legislative staff at Hotel Indigo Nashville from 5-7 p.m. for the perennial favorite Big Shrimp legislative reception. Organizations in Knoxville are marking Women’s History Month with events that celebrate, educate and inspire. These include a March 12 lecture on “Knoxville Women: Education and Hope,” which explores how women shaped Knoxville’s education system; a March 15 screening of the documentary “Fly With Me,” which looks at the trailblazing women who became flight attendants at a time when single women couldn’t order a drink or dine alone; and a March 29 Women’s History Tea Party, where attendees are encouraged to read a poem or passage written by a favorite author or educator.

Join the University of Tennessee Winston College of Law for the 26th Annual Julian Blackshear Jr. Scholarship Gala, a tradition honoring one of Winston Law’s first Black graduates and celebrating the school's commitment to expanding access to legal education. This event supports the Julian Blackshear Scholarship Endowment, which helps recruit exceptional future students. Iké Adeyemi, senior vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary of Eastman Chemical is this year’s keynote speaker. Attendees should register by March 13.

The Knoxville Bar Association and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, in partnership with Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET), will hold a Debt Relief Clinic on March 28 to provide pro bono legal services to income-eligible consumer debtors. The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. EDT at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St., Knoxville 37919. Judge Suzanne Bauknight will present a short overview of the bankruptcy system and then volunteer lawyers will conduct initial meetings with the clients to discuss their situations and options.
