The U.S. Department of Justice will hold two public meetings this week in Memphis in connection with its pattern or practice investigation into the Memphis Police Department. The first event will take place Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. CDT at the National Civil Rights Museum, 450 Mulberry St., Memphis 38103. The second meeting will take place Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. CDT at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, 70 N. Bellevue Blvd., Memphis 38104. The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee will host a public reading of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 15 to celebrate Constitution Day. The event will be held on the steps of the James H. Quillen United States Courthouse, 220 W. Depot St., Greeneville 37743, from 11:30 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. EDT. Members of the public, school groups and members of the bar are invited to join the celebration by reading the Constitution in segments of one minute or less. Those interested in participating should check in at the bottom of the courthouse steps upon arrival.

Davidson County General Sessions Court Judge Lynda Jones will be the keynote speaker for the Nashville Conflict Resolution Center's (NCRC) Mediation Matters Breakfast. NCRC will host the annual event on Sept. 7 at 7 a.m. CDT at Hillwood Country Club. A brief program outlining the organization’s service to the community and recognizing community heroes will begin at 7:30 a.m. “We look forward to honoring this year’s community heroes ...” said NCRC Executive Director Sara Figalof. “This event is always a celebration of great accomplishments.” Read a press release from the group for more details.

The TBA Young Lawyers Division will host two in-person Essential Documents for Essential Workers clinics this Saturday. Volunteer attorneys are still needed for the clinic in Cookeville, which will be held at the Cookeville Police Department from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT. Volunteers will meet with clients and enter client information into software that creates wills, powers of attorney and advanced health care directives. Registration is now open for the TBA's Law & Culture in Ireland CLE program scheduled for May 2024. Two travel options are available: a four-night trip to Dublin and a six-night trip to Dublin and Belfast.
