The investiture ceremony for U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Rachel Ralston Mancl will be held Sept. 29 at 1:30 p.m. EDT, with a reception to follow. Details will be updated closer to the event. Mancl was sworn in at a private ceremony in April 2022. She succeeds Chief Judge Shelley D. Rucker who had been the acting bankruptcy judge in Greeneville since former Chief Bankruptcy Judge Marcia Phillips Parsons retired in September 2020.

The Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers and Professionals for the Arts is joining the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, Nashville Bar Foundation and Country Music Association to provide free legal services for nonprofits and Black-owned small businesses in Nashville on July 20. Advice will cover business formation, corporate governance, contracts and navigating local ordinances and state regulations. Eligible entities may receive up to one hour of assistance. Registration is now open for the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services (TALS) Equal Justice University (EJU) conference. The annual event, co-sponsored by the TBA, is set for Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 at the Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro. This year’s conference will include more than 30 CLE sessions, basic 101 skills sessions for those new to particular practice areas and presentation of the Access to Justice Awards. YWCA Nashville will hold a virtual conversation with academics, community leaders and advocates on June 28 to discuss what the Second Amendment was created to protect. The event, part of the group’s Stand Against Injustice webinar series, will offer unique perspectives on America’s relationship to gun rights and the Second Amendment in advance of the General Assembly’s special session to consider gun safety in the state. The Tennessee Department of Revenue will hold a free webinar on June 27 at 9 a.m. CDT for people interested in state tax issues for the hospitality industry. Participants will discuss how taxation affects food/beverage, lodging and recreation businesses in Tennessee.
