A public meeting about the proposed new federal courthouse in Chattanooga will be held June 14 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. EDT at the Mac Avenue Event Space, 1304 McCallie Ave., Suite A. The public will have an opportunity to learn about possible locations for the courthouse and provide input on potential environmental impacts. The Chattanooga General Services Administration says that the facility will include seven courtrooms, nine judge chambers and offices for court-related agencies and secured parking spaces as well as the GSA, reported the Chattanoogan. The courthouse also will house the district clerk, bankruptcy clerk, U.S. Probation Office, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office and Federal Public Defender's Office.

The Tennessee State Library & Archives will host a series of free events on Thursday and Saturday in celebration of Tennessee’s statehood. The events include a presentation of historical documents including the Cumberland Compact, Gov. John Sevier’s address to the first Tennessee General Assembly, the Cherokee Nation 1827 Constitution and the founding documents of the State of Franklin. The Tennessee Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board will hold in-person oral arguments in two cases on June 8. First, the Board will consider the definition of “reasonable and necessary” medical bills, and if the trial court erred by excluding bills at a compensation hearing, in Lentz v. Coca-Cola Consolidated. (Read additional order.) Second, in Semich v. AT&T Services Inc., the question is whether the trial judge abused its discretion by ordering an employer to give employee’s counsel contact information of employees, who might provide information about the willful misconduct defense, outside of the parameters of a deposition. The Tennessee Department of Revenue will hold a free webinar on May 30 at 9 a.m. CDT for people interested in tax exemptions for nonprofit organizations. The session will cover topics such as nonprofit exemptions on sales and use tax, business tax, franchise tax, excise tax and other miscellaneous taxes. The Memphis Bar Association's Access to Justice Committee and Young Lawyers Division will join with Memphis Area Legal Services and local elected officials to host a Restoration of Rights Community Clinic on July 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CDT.
