The Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers and Professionals for the Arts is joining the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings in providing free legal services for Black-owned small businesses and nonprofits at a clinic on Nov. 17. Issues to be covered include questions about business formation, corporate governance, contract review and navigating local ordinances and state regulations. The Knoxville Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society and the University of Tennessee Student Chapter of the Federalist Society are hosting an event Nov. 15 with U.S. District Judge Katherine Crytzer. November is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Legal Innovators is out with a new podcast featuring Haley Moss, a neurodiversity expert, attorney, advocate, author and thought leader. The latest episode from “The Law in Black and White” looks at neurodiversity in the legal industry and how employers can be more inclusive.

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands is hosting a free Family Law Clinic on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at 1660 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Attorneys will offer free legal advice about orders of protection, getting a divorce, custody and child support, adoptions and domestic violence. The Knoxville Bar Association and its Bankruptcy Section, in partnership with Legal Aid of East Tennessee and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Suzanne H. Bauknight, will hold a Pro Bono Debt Relief Clinic on Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon EST. The event will take place at the Knox County Public Defender's Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St., Knoxville 37919. Applications are now being accepted for Scaling Small Law, a three-month-long advanced program for entrepreneurial lawyers, solo practitioners and newly formed solo/small firms. This comprehensive business education and development program program offers training in business planning, marketing, solo/small firm finance and budgeting, client service and experience, ethical considerations, and outsourcing and leveraging technology. The American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee (ACLU-TN) will honor Hedy Weinberg with its Lifetime Achievement Award at its Nov. 10 fundraiser. Weinberg was the organization’s executive director for more than 37 years, until she stepped down in early July. The event also will be an opportunity for supporters to welcome new Executive Director Kathy Sinback. The fundraiser will take place from 6-8 p.m. CDT at Wilburn Street Studio in Nashville. The Memphis Bar Association will holds its annual Pro Bono Awards celebration on Nov. 3 from 5-6:30 p.m. CDT at Butler Snow’s Memphis office, 6075 Poplar Ave. #500, Memphis 38119. The celebration will honor a judge, attorney, public interest professional, law student, law firm and legal department that made a difference through pro bono service.
