YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee will host a Stand Against Injustice Lunch and Learn on Sept. 29 from noon until 1 p.m. CDT. The free webinar will focus on the school to prison pipeline and will feature a group of panelists who are working for social change in our communities. The TBA hopes to obtain your input in choosing the second book for its quarterly book club. The three suggested books for the second quarter continue the theme of race relations and divides. The event will help equip those working in social services with the tools they need to help clients navigate civil and criminal legal services. A dedication ceremony of the Fred D. Thompson U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building in downtown Nashville has been postponed to a later date at the request of the General Services Administration. However, on the originally planned date of Sept. 23, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee will host an open house at 3 p.m. CDT for the public to visit the courthouse. The University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law will host the second annual Counselor’s Closet Clothing Drive on Sept. 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. CDT. The event, co-sponsored by the Memphis Bar Association, aims to help all law students gain access to professional clothing. Donated clothing should be gently used, dry cleaned and ready to wear. To make a donation, drive to the back of the law school at 3720 Alumni Ave. and a volunteer will meet you and pick up your donation.

Retired Hamilton County Circuit Court Judge Neil Thomas will speak to the Chattanooga Area Historical Association next Monday about the 1906 lynching of Ed Johnson. He will also provide a brief overview of the how the court functions and the influence the Johnson case has had on the court.
