Gov. Bill Lee’s office is now accepting applications to fill the vacancy on the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board, created by the retirement of David F. Hensley. Applicants must have seven years’ experience in workers’ compensation matters and must be at least 30 years old. The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments today filed amended notices for vacancies in the Court of Criminal Appeals Eastern Section and Court of Appeals Middle Section. The application deadline for the Court of Criminal Appeals is now noon CST on Feb. 21. The hearings dates remain March 3 and March 4. The application deadline for the Court of Appeals is now noon CST on Feb. 28. The hearing dates for those applicants will now be March 17 and March 18. The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Tennessee is accepting applications for a one-year clerkship (with a possible extension not to exceed four years) in its Memphis office. The law clerk will work with Judge M. Ruthie Hagan to perform legal research, draft legal documents, review motions and petitions, brief judges and assist during court proceedings. Applicants must be graduates of an accredited law school and have one of the following attributes: standing within the upper third of the law school class, experience on the editorial board of a law review, LLM degree, or proficiency in legal studies equivalent to one of these characteristics. The Defender Services Diversity Fellowship Program will place 12 fellows in federal defender offices across the country for two years — including in the Eastern District of Tennessee — during which time fellows will gain federal criminal defense training and experience in representing clients in non-capital Criminal Justice Act cases.
