The National Coalition for a Civil Right to Counsel (NCCRC) is seeking a legal research specialist to help maintain and expand its repository of legal research resources regarding the 50-state status of the right to counsel in a variety of civil areas, including questions around scope of the right, timing, the rights of various parties and appellate issues. The remote-work position is funded through December 2023 with the possibility of extension. This position provides responsible professional legal work, assists in policy development and implementation and serves as a leader on the Access, Innovation, and Community Engagement Division at the AOC. The federal public defender in the Middle District of Tennessee is seeking two assistant federal public defenders in its Capital Habeas Unit. The individuals will be responsible for representing death-sentenced clients in federal habeas corpus proceedings. Candidates must be admitted to the practice of law and eligible for admission to the federal bar and the Tennessee bar. The Federal Public Defender for the Middle District of Tennessee is now accepting applications for membership in its Criminal Justice Act Panel. Members of this panel are attorneys in private practice who are appointed to represent individuals accused of violating federal law who cannot afford private counsel. Applicants must: be in good standing with the federal bar of this District and the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals; maintain strong litigation skills and proficiency with federal law procedure; have significant experience in serious criminal litigation and a demonstrated commitment to the defense of people who lack the financial means to hire an attorney; and must maintain a primary, satellite or shared office in the district. Attorneys who lack the experiences stated above may apply to participate in the CJA Fellows mentoring and training program. Chapter 7 panel trustees receive compensation and reimbursement for expenses, but are not considered federal employees. Successful applicants will be at least 30 years of age, residents of the state for at least five years and current residents of the 29th Judicial District.
