Applications are now being accepted for 3rd Judicial District Circuit Court Judge, made vacant by the retirement of Judge Thomas J. Wright. The 3rd Judicial District encompasses Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, and Hawkins counties. Attorneys at least 30 years of age who have been residents of the state for five years and are currently residents of the 3rd Judicial District may apply by submitting a Trial Court Vacancy Commission Application to the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) by noon CDT on July 27. The commission will hold a hearing for the vacancy on Aug. 31 at 9 a.m. EDT. Read all application instructions on the AOC’s website.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Office of General Counsel is looking to add a senior environmental counsel to its growing team of 18 attorneys. TDEC attorneys are currently working remotely and anticipate continued flexibility moving forward. The position is expected to be based in Knoxville, but may also be based in Nashville with travel to Knoxville. The attorney will help lay the foundation of Tennessee’s new surface coal mining and reclamation program. Experience applying the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA), including experience handling financial assurance and bankruptcy issues, is preferred. Creed McGinley. Those interested should complete the Trial Court Vacancy Commission application and submit to the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) by noon CDT on June 29. Applicants must be at least 30 years of age, residents of the state for at least five years and current residents of the 24th Judicial District. Applications are being accepted for Circuit Court Judge in the 25th Judicial District, which includes Fayette, Hardeman, Lauderdale, McNairy, and Tipton counties. The opening was created by the retirement of Judge Joe H. Walker III. Licensed attorneys who are 30 years of age, have been residents of the state for five years and are currently residents of the 25th Judicial District are welcome to apply. Submit the Trial Court Vacancy Commission application to the Administrative Office of the Courts by noon CDT on June 22. The commission will consider applicants at a hearing on July 22 at 9 a.m. CDT. Applicants are now being accepted to fill the chancery court seat in the 26th Judicial District, a vacancy that was created by the retirement of Judge James F. Butler. The 26th Judicial District includes Chester, Henderson and Madison counties. Applicants must be at least 30 years old, residents of the state for five years and current residents of the 26th Judicial District. Those interested should submit the Trial Court Vacancy Commission Application and send it to the Administrative Office of the Courts by noon CDT on June 17. The office of Gov. Bill Lee is now accepting applications for a public defender in the 29th Judicial District. This vacancy was created by the retirement of James E. Lanier. The position will be filled by the governor until the next biennial election in August 2022. Applicants must have been a state resident for at least five years and a resident of the district for at least one year. The 29th Judicial District covers Dyer and Lake counties.
