The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit is accepting applications from those interested in an appointment as bankruptcy judge for the Western District of Tennessee at Memphis. The position will be open due to the impending retirement of Judge David S. Kennedy. The appointment is for a 14-year term.  The Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) and the National Bar Association (NBA) are seeking applicants for an Election Protection Fellow, a one-year full-time position. The Fellow will work with NBA local affiliates to ensure the maximum pro bono participation of African American lawyers in the national Election Protection Coalition Program, which is facilitated by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and features over 100 partner organizations. The Fellow will also assist in designing programs for the recruitment and training of African American lawyers as leaders, volunteers and supporters of the Election Protection Program and develop and maintain relationships with community partners, organizers and coalition members. Applications to fill the office of public defender for the 21st Judicial District are now being accepted by Gov. Bill Lee's office. Current Public Defender Vanessa Bryan is retiring on Nov. 22. The successful candidate will serve in the role until the next biennial election in August 2022. Applicants should be licensed in Tennessee, be a resident of the state for five years and a resident of the judicial district for one year. The 21st Judicial District includes the counties of Hickman, Lewis, Perry and Williamson. The Office of the Post-Conviction Defender is now accepting applications for an assistant post-conviction defender and an investigator. As part of a team, both the assistant post-conviction defender and the investigator will work with one another and with paralegals on behalf of clients to develop both guilt and innocence and sentencing claims, as well as grounds for clemency. The assistant defender must have a law license or eligibility for admittance to the Tennessee State Bar within six months of being employed. Mid-South Immigration Advocates is seeking a full-time Survivors’ Project Staff Attorney to provide civil legal services in Memphis to immigrant victims of violent crime, particularly domestic violence and sexual assault. The attorney will work closely with victim advocates to ensure clients’ civil needs are met in a holistic manner, including representation for orders of protection, divorce, child support/custody/visitation, and other related civil matters. Legal Aid of East Tennessee is now hiring for a staff attorney available out of the Knoxville, Chattanooga, Johnson City or Morristown office to assist seniors in general civil legal matters. This position will be part of a state-wide Elder Trust Consortium, a first-of-its-kind partnership between legal aid programs in Tennessee to bring high-quality legal services to seniors. Ten years of legal experience is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to high-quality legal work and equal access to justice is required.
