The Tennessee Law Lab Inc., an ABA-recognized law incubator, recently celebrated its first year in business. The Lab is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with offices in downtown Knoxville and a goal "to provide new attorneys and solo practitioners a solid foundation for practicing law." That includes offering mentorship, office space, conference room space, a receptionist, phone forwarding, unlimited commercial copying/ printing, shredding and other amenities. In its inaugural year, the Lab helped 15 attorneys jumpstart their law practices, 11 of whom were newly licensed attorneys, three were experienced attorneys looking for office space solutions, and one was a law student. Gov. Bill Lee’s office is now accepting applications to fill the seat of workers’ compensation Judge Marshall L. Davidson III ahead of his upcoming retirement on Jan. 2, 2020. The chosen candidate will serve the remainder of Judge Davidson’s term, set to expire on July 31, 2020. Disability Rights Tennessee, a non-profit protecting the rights of Tennesseans with disabilities, is looking to hire a new legal director. Duties of the legal director include advising the agency on legal decisions, providing day-to-day leadership and oversight of legal team members, representing clients in the area of disability discrimination and more. Eligible candidates will have an active law license and a minimum of five year’s experience handling disability rights litigation, including multiparty or class litigation. The Trial Court Vacancy Commission is accepting applications for a circuit court judge in the 15th Judicial District, which covers Jackson, Macon, Smith, Trousdale and Wilson counties. The vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge John D. Wootten Jr. Qualified applicants must be licensed attorneys who are at least 30 years of age, have been residents of the state for a minimum of five years and are residents of the 15th Judicial District. Applications must be submitted to the Administrative Office of the Courts by noon on Dec. 3. Candidates must submit the original signed (unbound) as well as a digital copy of the application in order to have their name placed on the list of candidates for the vacancy. Nashville lawyer Amy Willoughby Bryant authored an essay in the November issue of Nashville Parent magazine, where she writes about her decision to go back to work after the birth of her children. "I was not my best self when staying home with two children under the age of two," she writes. "Working feeds me mentally, emotionally and physically." Bryant is director of the Office of Conservatorship Management for the Metro Nashville government, and serves as chair of the TBA Public Education Committee. Read her story here (scroll to page 78).

The University of Florida Levin College of Law has partnered with international eDiscovery company Consilio to offer graduates a unique opportunity to learn the business of eDiscovery, Above the Law reports. The program is designed to introduce law school graduates to a new career path by exposing them to every aspect of the eDiscovery lifecycle. The experience includes participating in a sales call or client meeting, sitting in on a project kick-off call, and shadowing a technician performing data collection and document reviews. “We are teaching law students project management skills, communication and client-interaction skills, and the use of technology to solve problems in legal practice,” says Canaan Himmelbaum with Consilio.
