District Attorney General for the 26th Judicial District Jerry Woodall will retire Aug. 1, and Gov. Bill Haslam’s office is now accepting applications to fill the office temporarily, until the next election in 2018. Qualified candidates must have lived in the state for five years and the district for one year. The 26th Judicial District includes Chester, Henderson and Madison counties. Attorneys interested should submit a resume and cover letter by June 23 to Dwight Tarwater, Counsel to the Governor, State Capitol, First Floor, 600 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, 37243, or to dwight.tarwater@tn.gov.

The American Bar Association is looking for attorneys from underrepresented groups to join the new Diverse Speakers Directory, a initiative designed to give opportunities to speakers from diverse backgrounds and also help CLE planners connect with those individuals. ABA and non-ABA members are invited to sign up for the directory, which would be used by more than 3,500 ABA entities looking for speakers for their events or experts in a subject matter.

Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Robert Childers announced his retirement today after 33 years on the bench, Memphis Daily News reports. He was first elected in 1984 in a special election. “I consider my service as judge as the pinnacle of my legal career,” said Childers. “I have been blessed.” Childers’ retirement will be effective at the end of June. The Trial Court Vacancy Commission is now accepting applications for the position, which must be submitted to the Administrative Office of the Courts by June 26.

Applicants interested in filling a Circuit Court judge vacancy in the 2nd Judicial District (Sullivan County) should apply now to the Trial Court Vacancy Commission. Judge R. Jerry Beck has informed the governor that he will retire from the post on June 30. Applications must be submitted to the Administrative Office of the Courts by noon CDT on April 18.

Eleven applicants will be considered by the Trial Court Vacancy Commission for the 30th district circuit court vacancy, created after Judge Donna M. Fields announced her September retirement. The commission will meet on Aug. 8 to select nominees. The applicants from Memphis are Frank S. Cantrell, Margaret M. Chesney, Gwen Hewitt, Michael Wayne Mtichell, Regina Morrison Newman, Robert Bishop Rowling, David M. Rudolph and Mary L. Wagner. Gareth C. Leviton of Germantown also applied, as well as Lee Ann Pafford Dobson of Collierville and Gregory C. Krog Jr. of Cordova. Interviews and a public hearing will begin at 9 a.m. The commission is expected to vote immediately following the hearing and forward three names to Gov. Bill Haslam for his consideration.

The Trial Court Vacancy Commission is accepting applications for an upcoming vacancy on the 30th Judicial District Circuit Court. Judge Donna M. Fields, who now holds the seat, has informed the governor she will retire on Sept. 1. Interested individuals should apply by noon on July 7. The Trial Court Vacancy Commission is now accepting applications for the Chancery Court judge vacancy in the 20th Judicial District (Davidson County). Chancellor Carol McCoy announced that she will retire effective Sept. 1. Any interested applicant must be a licensed attorney who is at least 30 years of age, a resident of the state for five years and a resident of the 20th Judicial District. Applicants must complete the designated online application and submit it to the Administrative Office of the Courts by noon CDT on May 20. The Trial Court Vacancy Commission will interview all qualified applicants in Nashville on June 14.
