It's time for another round of #TeamTBA! Meet the people behind the scenes and learn more about the moving parts, projects and staffers of the Tennessee Bar Association. Lanny Brown is TBA's assistant executive director and he oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization. Lanny came to the TBA last year after serving as vice president of the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee and as curator of the Nashville Zoo. (His behind-the-scenes stories of the zoo are fascinating.) He says his favorite part of his job is working with an amazing staff of professionals who don't take themselves too seriously. Lanny is an amateur dendrologist, he can stop his own hiccups after no more than two and he prefers function over fashion — cargo shorts all the way. The #TeamTBA series offers members a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the TBA and how each staff member makes the association run. Check back next week for a new staff profile in TBA Today and on the TBA's Facebook and Instagram accounts.

It's time for #TeamTBA! Meet the people behind the scenes and learn more about the moving parts, projects and staffers of the Tennessee Bar Association. Sheree Wright is the TBA’s new executive director! She leads the team in daily operations and works with the Board of Governors and other TBA leaders to carry out the mission of the bar. Before joining the TBA, she served as a senior associate general counsel at Vanderbilt University and was active in the Nashville, Tennessee and national legal communities. Wright says that her favorite part of the job is meeting TBA members and hearing about the wonderful things they are doing for the community and the profession. Her hobbies include cooking, reading and going to the gym, and says that if she could bring back a fashion trend, she’d pick 1950s clothes a la the first season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. That’s a wrap on this installment of #TeamTBA! Contact information for all staff is available here.

It’s time for another round of #TeamTBA! Meet the people behind the scenes and learn more about the moving parts, projects and staffers of the Tennessee Bar Association. Digital Media and Leadership Development Coordinator Paul Burch handles the TBA’s social media, shares writing duties for the TBA Today newsletter, coordinates the Leadership Law (TBALL) program and produces the Bar Buzz podcast. He’s also a talented singer/songwriter who recently played the Kennedy Center! Paul says the most unique part of his job is writing the TBA Today newsletter. “The attention, care and (sometimes) organized deadline drama that goes into creating every issue is not far off from newsroom dramas I grew up watching in film and TV, especially when state and federal courts are preparing decisions that are typically released at 5 p.m.” Stay tuned through September as we introduce you to new staff members!

Meet TBA Director of Public Policy & Government Affairs Berkley Schwarz! Berkley works closely with the Tennessee legislature and government agencies to advocate for the legal profession by educating lawmakers on TBA’s policy positions in order to advance TBA’s legislative priorities and stop or amend legislation that adversely affects lawyers and/or the practice of law. Berkley keeps everyone at the TBA laughing, so it makes sense that the emoji she uses most on her phone is a laughing face. “My kids call the crying laughing emoji the ‘mom’ emoji,” she says.

She’s undeterred by complex business meetings, but don’t ask Karen to go on a canoe trip – she’s terrified of snakes and thinks it’s probable that one could fall from a tree into the canoe!
