Meet TBA’s Director of Finance & Accounting Derrick Dishner! Derrick oversees the processing of payables, budgeting and monthly financial reporting at the TBA. He says knowing that he’s “nurturing the financial health of the organization to keep it healthy for another 100 years” is the best part of his job! Don’t be jealous, but Derrick has two big trips coming up this year – a trip down the Rhine and to the Baltic!

Please welcome Hank Elliott, the newest member of our CLE Team! As the AV & Webcasting Coordinator, Hank plans, produces and provides front-line support for anything at the TBA that has an audio/visual element, including all our webinars and virtual CLEs! Hank is an avid Tennessee Vols fan and is headed to Baton Rouge, LA, this fall to knock another SEC stadium off his bucket list! He loves kayaking, traveling, hiking and hey — he’d make a great addition to your bar trivia team because he’s got a knack for historical trivia! Welcome, Hank!

Meet TBA Assistant Executive Director Barry Kolar! Barry is the glue that holds the TBA’s Communications Team together, and he also assists in the management of all TBA staff. Additionally, Barry oversees the TBA’s website, the TBA Today daily newsletter and SO much more! He spent much of his career working in journalism and has a master’s in political science from the University of Tennessee. Barry is a world traveler and loves working with Sister Cities of Nashville, where he enjoys making one-on-one connections with people in other countries. He says that experience “really lets you see how much we all have in common.”

Meet the new editor of the Tennessee Bar Journal, Julia Wilburn! Julia works with the Editorial Board to decide what will be published in each bimonthly issue, and with the publications coordinator on design and production. She is part of the communications team and she also helps edit section Connect e-newsletters and produce the TBA Today newsletter. Julia’s special talents include untangling any kind of knot and her most irrational fear is going to debtor’s prison for messing up her taxes, even though she hires an accountant and knows debtor’s prison isn’t a real thing!

From the Communications Team, meet Director of Access to Justice & Special Projects Liz Slagle Todaro! Liz has worn a variety of hats in her 10 years with the TBA, but has consistently worked with the TBA Access to Justice Committee. Liz also supports special projects including implementing TBA’s updated website and association management platform. As a native Nashvillian, Liz loves live music and admits her musical tastes are heavily influenced by her 15-year-old twins, Bella and Evie! She’s also been involved with policy debate for more than 30 years including working with urban debate leagues across the country. She even met her husband Corey on Emory’s Barkley Forum debate team!

Stacey Shrader Joslin, the TBA’s advertising, sponsorship and media content coordinator, is responsible for recruiting advertisers for the Tennessee Bar Journal and TBJ Select e-newsletter, section Connect e-newsletters and TBA.org; recruiting sponsors for CLE programs and events such as convention and mock trial; helping produce the TBA Today newsletter three days a week; writing several standing features for the Tennessee Bar Journal; and regularly contributing content for TBA.org. Stacey is chief of the TBA’s Grammar Police – she can spot an error in a news story from a mile away! She also loves reading, watching crime shows of all varieties and traveling!

Kate runs the TBA Leadership Law (TBALL) program, produces and hosts the TBA Podcast Network, writes the TBA Today newsletter twice a week and handles the TBA’s social media. When she’s not at a bowling alley or on a golf course, you can find Kate fawning over her container garden or rewatching the first season of True Detective.

Time to meet the Communications Team! This is Ateia Aldridge, TBA’s Young Lawyers Division & Law Student Development Coordinator! Ateia works with the YLD to plan programs, meetings and special projects like pro bono clinics, the annual Tennessee High School Mock Trial Competition and the award-winning Diversity Leadership Institute -- just to name a few. In her spare time, Ateia loves gardening and teaching her two and four-year-old boys how to grow and care for their flowers, fruits and veggies!

Rounding out the membership team is Mindy Thomas, TBA’s Membership Director! Mindy leads the charge in finding ways to bring value to TBA memberships by keeping her finger on the pulse of statewide bar association trends and communicating with TBA members and sections and committees. As for her hobbies, Mindy admittedly enjoys cleaning her house simply because it doesn’t require emailing anyone.
