The Tennessee Supreme Court issued a supplemental suspension order yesterday for four attorneys who failed to complete required CLE hours for the 2018 compliance year. They are John Poole, Hermitage; William Moore Haywood, Lewisburg; Vivian Lee Crandall, Oak Ridge; and Trippe Steven Fried, New York. The Nashville YWCA is holding its annual “Stand Against Racism” program virtually on April 22. The event will run from 11 a.m. to noon CDT. This year’s theme, Justice in a Time of Crisis, will focus on civic engagement, voting rights, health disparities and a fair census. Speakers include Freedom Rider Ernest "Rip" Patton; Tennessee Human Rights Commission Executive Director Beverly Watts; Fabian Bedne with the office of Nashville Mayor John Cooper; Barbara Gunn Lartey with Metro Human Relations Commission; and YWCA President Sharon Roberson. After a tornado hit the Chattanooga area late Sunday, local officials say they are now ready for volunteers to help, Nooga.com reports. Those interested in volunteering should fill out this form. To coordinate a large group of volunteers contact Brooke Satterfield. The city also is accepting donations at the Hamilton Family YMCA. Items needed are non-perishable food items, blankets, personal hygiene items, baby items, cleaning supplies, boxes and packing material and storage containers. To give financially, the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga has partnered with the United Way of Chattanooga to launch the Tornado Relief Fund, which will go to nonprofits providing immediate and long-term services.

Tennessee corrections officials are looking into testing all state inmates for the virus after positive tests have come back for staffers and inmates at several facilities, including Bledsoe County Correctional Complex, Northwest Correctional Complex, Trousdale Turner Correctional Center and Turney Center Industrial Complex. Those who have tested positive or were exposed to someone testing positive have been put in quarantine for 14 days, WJHL reports. Despite several attempts have the Corrections Department  release inmates, the department says it “has no plans for early release … at this time.”

Law firms across the country are taking steps to protect their cash flow by cutting partner and associate salaries, offering unpaid leave, furloughing employees who are not able to work from home, and canceling summer associate programs, Above the Law reports. Two firms with offices in Tennessee recently made news for their actions. Husch Blackwell, with an office in Chattanooga, reportedly cut equity partner draws by 15% percent and salaries for all managing directors and c-level executives by 10%. Ogletree Deakins, with offices in Memphis and Nashville, is reportedly cutting both work-week hours and salaries, with some saying their pay has been cut in half. The firm is also canceling its 2020 summer associate program. The law students who were planning to work at the firm will receive no compensation and no promise of future employment.
