The FAA has informed Metro Nashville and the state of Tennessee that it will continue to recognize the current airport board until the Davidson County Chancery Court makes a ruling on a pending lawsuit that challenges a new state plan for the board, reports Axios. In June, Metro Nashville sued after state lawmakers voted to vacate the mayor-appointed airport board and create a new system by which the governor and Republican legislative leaders appoint six of the eight board members. In the suit, the city argues the law violates the state constitution’s prohibitions of legislation targeting one local government.

The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday in a 6-3 decision authored by Chief Justice John Roberts that state courts can act as a check on their legislatures in redistricting and other issues affecting federal elections, reports the Associated Press. The ruling dismissed the “independent state legislature” theory, which would have given state lawmakers nearly unchecked power over federal elections. The ruling also upheld a decision by the North Carolina Supreme Court that struck down a congressional districting plan as excessively partisan under state law.

A Nashville nonprofit was recently awarded land and $3 million from the city’s Barnes Housing Trust Fund to build affordable housing for older adults. The organization, AWAKE Nashville, was founded in response to last year’s shuttering of the North Park Village Senior Living Community, a low-income assisted and independent living facility in Madison that was razed to build townhomes. Founder and CEO Karen Holder’s mother was a resident at North Park, where dozens of seniors were given just a month to find a new home. The new facility will be built off Brick Church Pike in North Nashville. AWAKE intends to have housing ready for seniors by 2024. WKRN Nashville has more.

A new drug shown to slow down Alzheimer’s could receive FDA approval by July 6, NPR reports. Lecanemab, marketed by drugmaker Eisai Inc. as Leqembi, works by removing protein called amyloid-beta from the brains of people in the onset of the disease. Amyloid-beta plays an essential role in neural growth and repair; however, excess amounts of the protein can cause plaque deposits leading to cognitive decline. The drug’s success appears to be tied to severity of condition, and therapy has not been tested on people in Alzheimer’s more advanced stages. Studies show it takes 18 months of treatment to slow the loss of memory and thinking by about six months. Eisai says it plans to offer the drug at an annual cost of $26,500. If approved, Medicare says it will conditionally cover treatment.
