House Appropriations Committee Votes to Cut LSC Funding

The U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee yesterday voted to cut $85 million from the Legal Services Corporation, a funding decrease of 24 percent. This is a departure from the Trump administration’s budget, which slashes LSC funding entirely. Amendments have been introduced to restore funding to FY 2017 levels of $385 million. The bill will now move to the House of Representatives for floor action, but there is no schedule for when or if that will happen. Lawyers and legal groups across the country are speaking out against the devastating impact of proposed funding cuts.
