Harvey Weinstein is expected to surrender to authorities tomorrow in New York in connection to his sexual assault case, Variety reports. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office is expected to charge the Hollywood mogul and accused sexual predator with at least one case. Weinstein has been accused by multiple women of rape and harassment. New York’s attorney general’s office has launched a query into the Manhattan DA’s handling of the case going back to 2015, when the office declined to charge Weinstein.

A Knoxville woman helped uncover a scam that sought to steal money from elderly residents with promises of millions of dollars locked in a safe, Knoxnews reports. The 75-year-old unnamed victim, who was told she won a sweepstakes, was given a safe supposedly stuffed with millions. She would be given the key to the safe only after she paid taxes on the winnings. The victim paid the scammers $43,500 before contacting the authorities. One of the conspirators in the scheme, Betty Lou Repka Myers of Texas, has been arrested but several others are still at large.

A lawsuit filed on behalf of a husband and father who lost his family in the Gatlinburg wildfires is seeking millions from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which the suit claims failed to warn residents or contain the fire in time, Knoxnews reports. Michael Reed, who lost his family to the blaze and James England, who lost his home, are named as lead plaintiffs in the suit, which seeks class-action status for all victims of the fire. Damages sought for Reed are more than $15 million and $1.3 million for England.

A report by the National Transportation Safety Board highlights multiple complaints against the driver involved in the 2016 Woodmore Elementary bus crash, the Times Free Press reports. The driver of the crash that killed six children, Johnthony Walker, had 10 complaints made against him for speeding or driving erratically. Durham School Services, the company that employed Walker, did not have a method for receiving, tracking or investigation complaints against drivers, the report said. In February, Walker was sentenced to four years in prison.

Former Nashville judge Casey Moreland pleaded guilty today in federal court in accordance with an agreement between the disgraced judge and federal prosecutors, The Tennessean reports. His charges include obstruction of justice, retaliating against a witness, fraud of a federal program, destruction of records and witness tampering. Moreland was first indicted in April 2017 and has been accused of attempting to bribe a former girlfriend and embezzling money from the Davidson County Drug Court.

The Tennessee Coalition for Open Government and the Knoxville News Sentinel have joined together to file a motion to unseal documents related the state’s opioid lawsuit against Purdue Pharma, Humphrey on the Hill reports. The motion claims there is a “compelling interest” by Tennesseans in the information contained in the suit “because the State is a public litigant, the Complaint involves a matter of immense public concern, and the Defendant in unlikely to show specific harm as a result from disclosure of the Complaint.”

Former Pilot Flying J President Mark Hazelwood, who faces sentencing for his role in the company’s scheme to defraud smaller trucking companies of at least $56.5 million over five years, is seeking a change of legal representation, Knoxnews reports. He is currently represented by a Texas attorney with many celebrity clients, but wants to switch to a local lawyer. Knoxville attorney Brad Henry filed a motion on Monday seeking permission to take over Hazelwood’s case.

The Tennessee parole board was split three ways while trying to decide whether to grant clemency to Cyntoia Brown, the Nashville woman serving a life sentence for a murder she committed at 16 as a victim of sex trafficking, The Tennessean reports. Two members of the six-member panel voted to recommend that the governor grant Brown clemency, two voted to deny, and two voted to reduce her current sentence of life to 25 years. Gov. Bill Haslam will ultimately accept or reject any of the recommendations.

The editorial staff at satirical news organization The Onion recently unearthed a cease and desist letter written in 2013 by President Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen, Above the Law reports. The letter was drafted in response to a parody editorial with Trump’s byline. Cohen, who began the message by clarifying that the piece was not written by Trump, goes on to call the article “an absolutely disgusting piece that lacks any place in journalism.”
