Sponsor Trivia: Lobbyists Set up Headquarters
In August 1920, Tennessee’s elected representatives gathered in Nashville for a special legislative session called by the governor. At stake was ratification of the 19th Amendment and women’s right to vote. From all across the country, leaders, special interest groups and journalists also descended on the city. Just a block from the state capitol, pro- and anti-suffrage groups set up their headquarters at the Hermitage Hotel. For six weeks leading up to the final vote, 250 guest rooms and suites, meeting rooms, the lobby and dining room were filled to overflowing with campaigners. Source: Hermitage Hotel
